March Break is a popular time to travel. Especially considering the kids have some free time.
While on vacation, it’s easy to get caught up in the relaxation – sitting on the beaches, site seeing or happy hour at a local bar.
We’re not saying you can’t enjoy yourself, but why not squeeze a half hour of daily exercise into your next adventure?
Physical activity has several benefits for our mind, body and soul including:
- Better mood
- Improved resting heart rate
- Stronger bones
- Reduced risk of cardiovascular disease
- Lower stress levels
- and more!
So what are some ways we can incorporate physical activity while away on vacation? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered! Take a look at our top 3 suggestions below!
- Research
Does your hotel have a gym on site? Quite a number of places all over the world tend to accommodate those who live an active lifestyle. It could be in the form of the gym or a swimming pool, if that’s an activity you enjoy. Not staying at a hotel? Check out the area and see if they have any local gyms nearby. Purchase a guest pass if they offer one.
- Go to a Destination that Requires Physical Activity
That’s right! Depending on the destination, you may be obligated to go on a hike to reach a local tourist attraction. If it’s close by, walk instead of taking the tour bus. Even at a resort there are activities you can participate in. Go for a swim at the beach, take up surfing lessons or get a group of people together for a friendly game of beach volleyball.
- Create Your Own Exercise Program
You don’t need equipment in order to exercise. If you’re comfortable, find a route where you can go for a short run. For example, going for a run on the beach in the early morning or late evening – times where the temperature isn’t too hot, and your risk of overexposure to the sun is low. Add a few resistance exercises such as body weight squats, push-ups, chin-ups or abdominal crunches.
Getting your daily dose of physical activity doesn’t have to be boring! We can make physical activity fun while still enjoying a vacation.
