This is the first summer I’ve experienced as a parent with a child in-between school years. And I cannot believe how quickly it has flown by! As of today, there’s exactly one week left before school’s back in.

If you haven’t already, start establishing the routines you’ll need and want on school days. To help, I’ve compiled a list of 7 tips that are sure to make the back-to-school transition a seamless one.

Help Manage and Prevent Anxiety

It’s natural for children to feel a little anxious when going through a transition like the “back-to-school” season. To assist them, don’t procrastinate. Help your kiddos feel prepared for the transition by talking through the changes ahead, and physically organizing. For example, don’t leave supply purchases or backpack packing to the last second – today’s as good a day as any to get those jobs done!

Make Quick Breakfasts Your Friend

A protein-packed breakfast is important, but not always easy when you’re running off to school. These Overnight Chia Pudding recipes are a huge help, because you can prep an entire week’s worth of breakfasts on Sunday evening! No breakfast prep on school mornings? Count me in!

Pack Healthy Lunches

A healthy lunch is critical for your child’s overall wellness, and their success at school! Packing a well-balanced lunch can help children listen more attentively, retain more information, and have more stable emotions throughout their day. You can download my e-book on Healthy Lunches here.

Make Easy Dinners

Weeknights can seem much more hectic during the school year. There’s only so much time to go around! Throw some extracurricular activities into the mix, and you may be tempted to make less than stellar meal choices to save a few minutes.

Sunday meal prepping is a strategy we often recommend! Chopping onion and carrots, washing lettuce, and portioning meats ahead of time can really free up an evening. It’s such a relief to be able to prepare a healthy meal by just throwing everything together.

On that note, fall is just around the corner… you could also dust off your crockpot for a dinner that’s ready when you walk in the door!

Choose a Safe Backpack

If you’re shopping for your little one this fall, know that there are stylish options that will protect their growing bodies from unnecessary strain. Check out Chiropractor, Dr. Jen’s, tips for choosing the best backpack here.

Aim for Stress-free Mornings

If you lay out clothes the night before, make an easy breakfast for the week, prep healthy lunches, and have backpacks packed… your mornings are sure to be a breeze! A well-organized start to the day, sets the tone for a successful day at school as well!

Have Fun!

Your kiddos still have one week left of summer vacation! So, in amongst the prepping and preparing, make sure to squeeze in a few more adventures, some awesome memories, and a bit more fun!

Fall can feel like a bit of a “second new year”. It’s a very transitional time for many of us, including our kids. So, starting off the back-to-school season on a good note can help make for a great year!
